An earthquake of magnitude 5.8 on the Richter Scale hit Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday, however there have been no experiences of any lack of life or harm to property, officers mentioned.

The earthquake was recorded at 4.19 pm, they mentioned.

The epicentre of the quake was in Afghanistan at a latitude of 36.49 levels north and longitude of 71.27 levels east, at a depth of 165 km, officers mentioned.

They mentioned to date there have been no experiences of any lack of life or harm to property wherever within the Kashmir Valley.
