BCCI Proposes a hybrid model for 2025 Champions Trophy and India-Indian matches in Sri Lanka or UAE

The next year’s Champions Trophy tour by the Indian cricket team to Pakistan seems highly unlikely. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has selected a hybrid model for the competition, similar to what was used for the Asia Cup the previous year. This scenario would see India play all of its matches in either Sri Lanka or the United Arab Emirates. The formal forum for the BCCI to make this announcement will be the International Cricket Council (ICC) meeting in Colombo next week.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) suggested that India’s matches for the Champions Trophy be played in Lahore because of security concerns when they drew out a draft schedule a few weeks ago.

Although the BCCI is averse to sending its players to Pakistan, the Indian squad hasn’t visited that country since 2008.

Except for a bilateral series visit in 2012 and participation in ICC events in 2016 and 2022, Pakistan has not played the Indian team in an ICC competition since 2012. Last year’s Asia Cup similarly employed a mixed format, with India’s matches held in Sri Lanka and Pakistan hosting part of the matches.
