Writer and academician Rekha Chaturvedi launched her e-book “Fiji Mein Bhartiyon Ka Itihas Tatha Unka Jeevan (1879–1947)” [(The Life and History of Indians in Fiji (1879-1947)] on the event of Pravasi Bharatiya Day.
The e-book gives a deep perception into the lives and sufferings of indentured labour from India, in accordance with the writer. The e-book is a name to recognise and honour the sacrifices of the Indian diaspora, guaranteeing their tales are preserved for future generations, she added.
Indentured labour, often known as ‘Coolies’, is a painful chapter of the British Rule in India. South Africa, Mauritius, Trinidad, Guyana and Fiji have had a protracted and darkish previous of compelled labour, with individuals pushed to work in inhuman circumstances performing arduous duties.
