NEW DELHI: In a significant move towards modernizing the Indian Armed Forces, the Defence Ministry has greenlit the procurement of future-ready combat vehicles (FRCVs), advanced air defence fire control radars, and Dornier-228 aircraft. This decision, announced on Tuesday, comes as part of a broader strategy to enhance the capabilities of the Army and Air Force.

Approval by the Defence Acquisition Council

The Defence Acquisition Council (DAC), headed by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, has given its nod to these crucial acquisitions. Future-Ready Combat Vehicles (FRCVs)

One of the most anticipated components of this approval is the procurement of FRCVs. These advanced combat vehicles are set to replace the older, outdated tanks currently in service. The new FRCVs are designed to meet modern warfare requirements, offering enhanced mobility, protection, and firepower. The move is expected to significantly boost the Army’s operational capabilities, ensuring it remains well-equipped to handle contemporary combat scenarios.

Advanced Air Defence Fire Control Radars

In addition to the FRCVs, the DAC has approved the acquisition of state-of-the-art air defence fire control radars. These radars will play a crucial role in detecting and tracking aerial threats, thereby improving the country’s air defence systems. The new radars are expected to provide better accuracy and faster response times, strengthening the nation’s ability to defend against potential aerial attacks.

Dornier-228 Aircraft

The procurement also includes the Dornier-228 aircraft, known for its versatility and reliability. These aircraft are set to enhance the Air Force’s surveillance and reconnaissance capabilities. The Dornier-228 is renowned for its ability to operate from short and unpaved airstrips, making it a valuable asset for both coastal and remote area operations.
