International Yoga Day 2024: Prime Minister Modi Visits Srinagar to Lead Celebrations

Srinagar, June 20, 2024 — Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to mark his first visit to Jammu and Kashmir since assuming office for a third consecutive term. His visit coincides with the International Yoga Day celebrations, which will be observed on Friday, June 21. The theme for this year’s International Day of Yoga is “Yoga for Self and Society.”

Yoga Day Celebrations at Dal Lake

On June 21, Prime Minister Modi, along with over 7,000 participants, will perform yoga on the picturesque banks of Dal Lake. This serene setting provides a stunning backdrop for the event, which aims to promote the holistic benefits of yoga. For the past three days, participants have been receiving training in the yoga ‘Asanas’ that the Prime Minister will perform, according to officials.

An official from the Press Information Bureau detailed the Prime Minister’s schedule: “On 21st June, at around 6:30 AM, the Prime Minister will participate in the 10th International Day of Yoga event at SKICC in Srinagar. The Prime Minister will address the gathering and take part in the CYP Yoga session thereafter.”

Apart from the yoga event, Prime Minister Modi will also participate in the ‘Empowering Youth, Transforming J&K’ event at the Sher-i-Kashmir International Conference Centre (SKICC). During his visit, he will inaugurate and lay the foundation stones for various development projects aimed at boosting the region’s infrastructure and economic growth.

International Yoga Day Celebrations in Washington

Meanwhile, across the globe, yoga enthusiasts in Washington, D.C., gathered at the Wharf overlooking the Potomac River to celebrate ahead of International Yoga Day. India’s Deputy Ambassador to the US, Sripriya Ranganathan, emphasized the significance of yoga in fostering harmony and balance for a brighter societal future. The Washington event commenced with prayers and featured Indian classical dance performances, underscoring the cultural richness associated with yoga.
