Congress Rajya Sabha MP and former Union finance minister P Chidambaram mirrored on the “golden chapter in historical past” throughout former prime minister Manmohan Singh’s tenure.
In an emotional submit on social media platform X shortly after Manmohan Singh’s dying, P Chidambaram mirrored on the years when he labored alongside the previous PM as union finance minister.
“I labored carefully with him for a few years. I’ve not met an individual extra humble and self-effacing than Dr Singh. He wore his scholarship flippantly and by no means claimed credit score for any of his historic achievements,” he said.
The Rajya Sabha MP elaborated on the “golden chapter of the historical past of India” throughout Manmohan Singh’s tenure from 1991 to 2014, saying, “The story of India turned after Dr Singh grew to become Finance Minister. And the current center class of India was nearly the creation of his insurance policies as Finance Minister and Prime Minister.”
He cited examples of Dr Manmohan Singh’s empathy, particularly for the poor, via insurance policies enacted throughout his time period such because the MNREGA (Mahatma Gandhi Nationwide Rural Employment Assure Act), the restructuring of the PDS (public distribution system) and extension of the mid-day meal scheme.
“He didn’t conceal the truth that many hundreds of thousands of India are poor and reminded us that authorities’s insurance policies should lean in favour of the poor,” the Congress chief wrote.
Chidambaram concluded the tribute saying, “His story has not been informed totally. His achievements haven’t been recorded totally. I’m certain after we look again upon the 23 years that Dr Singh was in lively politics, we’ll understand his true contribution.”
Dr Manmohan Singh, former prime minister of India, handed away on the evening of December 26 All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) at age 92. He was India’s thirteenth prime minister and the primary Sikh to carry the place.
