In a letter sent to Union Civil Aviation Minister Rammohan Naidu Kinjarapu, Mann highlighted the importance of honoring Sarabha’s legacy.

On March 22, 2023, the Punjab Assembly passed a unanimous resolution. Kartar Singh Sarabha was a prominent figure in the Indian independence movement. Born in 1896, he became active in the fight against British rule at a young age. His dedication and bravery made him an inspiring symbol of resistance. Sarabha was associated with the Ghadar Party, which aimed to overthrow British colonial rule. His life ended tragically when he was executed at the age of 19. By naming the airport after him, the government aims to keep his memory alive and inspire future generations.

In his letter, Mann mentioned that the airport’s interim terminal building is expected to be completed by the end of this month. He expressed hope that the government would take swift action to fulfill this demand. The Chief Minister noted that naming the airport after Sarabha would not only honor his legacy but also boost local pride and identity.

The airport in Halwara is significant for the region. It is set to enhance air connectivity and promote economic growth. By designating it as “Shaheed Kartar Singh Sarabha International Airport,” the government aims to recognize the historical importance of the location.
