The Waldorf Astoria Costa Rica Punta Cacique in Guanacaste Playa Penca has named Ruben Gabino general manager.

The much awaited Waldorf Astoria Costa Rica Punta Cacique, which is slated to open as Waldorf Astoria’s first hotel in Costa Rica in late 2024, has appointed Ruben Gabino as general manager, Hilton proudly announces. Set to open in the fourth quarter of 2024, the 188-room resort will set a new standard for sustainable, barefoot luxury, situated in one of the most remarkable ecosystems on Earth. With over two decades of experience in the hospitality industry, Gabino comes to the new property from the prestigious Conrad Koh Samui, where he was general manager since 2019.

Using the iconic brand heritage of the Waldorf Astoria to position the property as one of the most alluring new resort experiences in the world, Gabino will play a key role in redefining the luxury hospitality experience in Costa Rica in his new role. Gabino will be in charge of all resort operations and make sure that his team upholds the brand’s long-standing dedication to providing exquisite service, once-in-a-lifetime experiences, and sophisticated lodging in the most sought-after locations worldwide in addition to overseeing the impending opening.

Gabino, who moved to the Caribbean and Latin America from Southeast Asia, brings to the position twenty years of global experience in the luxury market. The most recent position Gabino held was general manager of Conrad Koh Samui. During his time there, the hotel flourished and became one of Hilton’s premier luxury resorts in the Asia Pacific region. Throughout his tenure, the hotel won numerous awards. Gabino brought in a number of cutting-edge improvements during his five years at Conrad Koh Samui, including “Project Iris,” a three-acre farm that provides 80 percent of the hotel’s fruits and vegetables, as well as a wedding chapel, pier, and art studio. In 2015, he started working for Hilton as the Conrad Seoul hotel manager.

Gabino has held prominent positions at well-known hotels and resorts all over the world during his professional career, such as Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts, Jumeirah Hotels & Resorts, and St. Regis Hotels.
