Philippe Kronberg will serve as the general manager of Shangri-La Muscat in Oman going forward.
French-Australian dual citizen Philippe Kronberg brings a wealth of experience to his new position in Muscat. The 640 rooms and suites of the resort, which are dispersed among three different hotels on 124 acres near the energetic Gulf of Oman, will be under his strategic direction and day-to-day management.
Philippe is taking up a new role as General Manager within the Shangri-La Group, having previously worked at Shangri-La Sydney. Having worked in upscale hospitality for more than 30 years, he has held positions in Turkey, Europe, the UK, and the Asia-Pacific region. After graduating from the esteemed Swiss hospitality school “Les Roches” with a diploma in hotel management, Philippe started his career at the renowned Ritz Hotel in London.
Since then, he has shown off his remarkable practical leadership and business savvy in Sydney, where his guidance has resulted in the hotel’s highest revenue since it opened. Additionally, Philippe has an MBA from both the University of Sydney and the University of New South Wales. From 2019 to 2023, he was a board member of Australia’s Tourism Accommodation Association, where he gained insightful knowledge about the relationship between the government and the industry.
In all departments, Philippe is dedicated to following compliance guidelines and sustainable practices. Oman’s only adult-only resort and its most popular family beach resort are both under his capable leadership, thanks to his vast experience.
“I am thrilled to begin my journey in Oman, working with a group of talented and committed hospitality professionals to further the complex’s success and draw in more visitors from around the world. Oman is a gem of the Middle East that is not widely known in the luxury travel industry. “It will be an amazing chance for me to deepen my knowledge of the Gulf states,” Philippe Kronberg said.
“The resort’s expansion and development are reaching an exciting new phase. I see many opportunities to maintain the high standards of excellence Shangri-La is known for at both Shangri-La Barr Al Jissah and Shangri-La Al Husn, while also increasing revenue streams, developing strategies with the commercial team, and increasing guest satisfaction.”
A former paratrooper, Philippe has a private pilot’s license and enjoys aerobatic flying in his free time. Along with being a family man with two teenage children, he also dedicates his time to outreach and fundraising efforts for charitable causes. The Shangri-La Group’s philosophy, which blends luxury with sustainability and regional flair to give visitors their own private Shangri-La, is in line with his adventurous spirit and sense of responsibility.
