Shruti Haasan turns 39 today! Beyond her immense talent as an actress and singer, Shruti is a bona fide foodie with some unique preferences. While she doesn’t eat much meat, she loves her veggies and, on cheat days, can’t resist rice and potatoes. How do we know? She spilled the beans during a 2020 interview with Bollywood Hungama. In the interview, Shruti revealed her balanced yet indulgent relationship with food. She admitted to skipping breakfast often (which she knows isn’t ideal), but when she does eat in the morning, it’s usually gluten-free toast or cereal. “I enjoy green juices but don’t have them as often as I should. Lunch for me is usually a salad or a sandwich, as I absolutely love sandwiches,” she shared.
Her dinners are usually light, but if she’s had a sparse morning and lunch, she doesn’t shy away from a heavier meal later. As for snacks? Mostly nuts. Being gluten-intolerant, she opts for gluten-free rotis. And when it comes to cheat days, Shruti keeps it classic with rice and potato dishes. “I adore sambar sadam (sambar rice) paired with potato curry,” she revealed.

Shruti’s Take on Seafood and Veggies

Shruti once loved seafood but had to scale back after developing a shellfish allergy. “While I am non-vegetarian, I don’t crave chicken or mutton regularly. That said, I do enjoy mutton and caviar occasionally,” she said.
She’s also a die-hard fan of potatoes – her favourite vegetable! She loves Indian-style cooked vegetables and doesn’t mind raw ones either. For cooking, she prefers coconut oil over ghee.

Tea Over Coffee and A Love for Ice Cream

Unlike most, Shruti skips coffee entirely and sticks to tea. Her favourites include English breakfast tea, fruit-flavoured teas, and iced tea. And let’s not forget her sweet tooth – ice cream is one of her guilty pleasures.
