The term aqua can actually cover a multitude of different classes, all of which concentrate on different exercises and working different parts of the body, depending on what you want to achieve. They all have the same benefits though, giving fantastic calorie- and fat-burning potential without putting too much stress through your joints. These include aqua jogging, deep water aqua and aqua circuits, for which you’ll find descriptions below, alongside standard aqua classes.
Here are a selection of different aqua classes we offer at various sites across the country.
Aqua
This class usually begins with a variety of exercises, which are usually followed by strength and conditioning exercises using woggles or dumbbells.
Aqua Jogging
This is a fantastic way to get all the benefits of going for a run, but with far less impact on your body. Aqua jogging classes are usually held in deeper parts of the pool than other aqua classes and require a couple of pieces of equipment to do properly – water shoes and a floatation belt, the latter of which helps keep you upright in the pool. These sessions are perfect for runners who are coming back after injury and don’t want to put too much stress through their bodies.
Aqua Circuits
This class mixes a variety of cardio and strength exercises. The class is split into smaller groups to complete different exercises each, before moving on to a different type of workout. In this class, you’ll use floats and weights to help build muscle tone and stamina, while other elements will be focused on cardiovascular exercises.
Deep Water Aqua
These are very similar to standard aqua classes, with additional swimming elements and make for a slightly more intense workout. As a result, you’ll burn more calories and feel more benefits, but you’ll need to be a confident swimmer in order to take part.
Unfortunately, not all these classes are available at all of our centres that have swimming pools, so please check with your specific centre to make sure your preferred class is available.
