Air India, Singapore Airlines Expand Partnership to Improve Connectivity
Air India and Singapore Airlines deepen codeshare and network cooperation to expand India–Singapore connectivity with more flights and seamless services.
Air India and Singapore Airlines have announced an expansion of their strategic partnership to enhance connectivity between India and Singapore, reflecting growing demand for travel links between South Asia and Southeast Asia and strengthening airline cooperation.
Under the expanded arrangement, the two carriers will add additional codeshare services on multiple routes, increasing flight options for passengers travelling between Indian cities and Singapore. The move is aimed at offering more seamless connections, broader schedule choice, and improved access to onward networks across both airlines’ hubs.
The enhanced cooperation builds on an existing partnership in which Air India and Singapore Airlines already offered reciprocal codeshares and coordinated schedules on select international sectors. The revised agreement increases the number of flights eligible for codesharing and includes additional Indian airports, supporting traffic growth and facilitating business and leisure travel.
Air India’s focus on expanding its global footprint aligns with its fleet modernisation and network growth strategies following privatisation. Partnering with established global carriers such as Singapore Airlines enables Air India to offer passengers greater flexibility and connectivity without proportionate increases in its own fleet deployment.
Singapore Airlines, known for its extensive network in Asia and beyond, sees the expanded partnership as a way to tap into India’s rapidly growing outbound market. Enhanced codeshare access not only strengthens Singapore as a regional hub but also enhances competitive positioning against other carriers connecting the Indian subcontinent with Southeast Asian and Australasian destinations.
For passengers, the expanded codeshare arrangement means additional flight options, potential for improved loyalty programme reciprocity, and more integrated services from booking to baggage handling. Both airlines are expected to coordinate on customer experience elements such as check-in processes and frequent-flyer benefits to ensure a smoother travel experience.
Industry analysts note that such bilateral partnerships are increasingly important in a competitive post-pandemic aviation landscape, where carriers leverage alliances and codeshares to optimise network coverage and mitigate the cost of direct operation on all city pairs.
Regulators in both India and Singapore have supported deeper airline cooperation, recognising that enhanced air connectivity drives tourism, trade and economic exchange. As two of Asia’s major aviation markets, strengthened links between India and Singapore serve broader commercial and geopolitical interests.
For network planners and airline executives, the expanded partnership underscores the relevance of strategic alliances in capturing market share, managing capacity, and adapting to fluctuating travel demand. As travel levels continue to recover, carriers are likely to pursue similar cooperative strategies to broaden reach and offer customers enhanced global access.
