Saudi Arabia’s tourism and hospitality sectors are experiencing accelerated transformation as major international carriers expand services into Riyadh and high-end hospitality infrastructure grows to meet global demand.

A range of leading airlines — including Emirates, Qatar Airways, Air India, Saudia, flyadeal, IndiGo, British Airways, Oman Air and Delta — are increasing flights and connectivity to Riyadh, significantly improving access for international travellers. This surge in connectivity is helping position the capital as a more accessible destination for both leisure and business visitors, aligning with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 objectives of diversifying the economy and boosting tourism.

The timing of airline route growth coincides with the grand opening of Sofitel Riyadh’s Luxury Hotel and Convention Centre, a landmark addition to the city’s hospitality landscape. Operated by Accor, the new property offers 388 rooms and suites blending contemporary design with regional influences, high-end dining options and 8,500 square metres of flexible event space. The Princess Nouf International Convention Centre within the complex is expected to become a key venue for global conferences, exhibitions and corporate gatherings — supporting both MICE (meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions) tourism as well as leisure travel.

The combined impact of expanded airline access and elevated accommodation offerings reflects a broader strategic push to position Saudi Arabia as a global travel hub. Enhanced flight connectivity not only increases tourist arrivals from key markets across Europe, Asia, the Middle East and North America but also stimulates demand for luxury lodging, business facilities and cultural experiences in destinations such as Riyadh.

Regional airlines like Saudia and flyadeal — both serving multiple domestic and international routes — are supporting the influx by offering frequent services across the Middle East and connections to cities worldwide. Meanwhile, partnerships such as the recent codeshare agreement between Saudia and Air India expand travel options further for passengers from major Indian cities to Saudi destinations.

As Saudi Arabia continues to open its tourism ecosystem, investments in infrastructure like high-quality hotels and event spaces will be crucial to sustaining growth. Sofitel Riyadh, with its world-class amenities and strategic location, demonstrates how luxury hospitality developments are meeting rising expectations from global travellers and contributing to the kingdom’s evolving tourism narrative.
