London Gatwick to Launch First Direct Flight to Sharjah With Air Arabia From March 2026
London Gatwick will launch the first-ever direct flight to Sharjah with Air Arabia on 29 March 2026, boosting UK–UAE travel and regional connectivity
In a major development for UK travel, London Gatwick Airport is set to launch its first-ever direct flight to Sharjah, United Arab Emirates, beginning 29 March 2026. The new route will be operated by Air Arabia and is expected to significantly enhance travel convenience and regional connectivity between the United Kingdom and the Middle East.
Air Arabia Expands UK Presence With New Route
The new London–Sharjah route will be operated using the advanced Airbus A321neo LR aircraft, marking a strategic milestone for Air Arabia as the budget carrier strengthens its footprint in the UK aviation market. The launch reflects the airline’s response to increasing travel demand between the UK and the UAE, offering passengers a seamless non-stop journey.
Sharjah’s Growing Appeal as a Cultural and Business Hub
Sharjah, widely regarded as the cultural capital of the UAE, has become an increasingly attractive destination for tourists, corporate travellers, and expatriates. Known for its heritage, museums, and growing business ecosystem, the emirate also offers convenient onward access to Dubai and the wider Gulf region. The new direct service is expected to support rising interest in Sharjah as both a leisure and business destination.
Rising Demand for Middle East Travel From Gatwick
The launch comes as London Gatwick experiences a surge in Middle East-bound travel. In Q3 2025, the airport recorded a 22.7 percent increase in passengers travelling to Gulf destinations. With this new addition, Gatwick aims to strengthen its position as a key UK hub for Middle East connectivity.
By summer 2026, Gatwick plans to expand its Middle East service offerings to 80 weekly departures, reinforcing its growing global route network.
More Convenience and Choice for UK Travellers
The introduction of the direct Sharjah flight will offer UK passengers improved travel flexibility, fewer layovers, and shorter total journey times. With twice-daily services scheduled, the route will appeal to families, corporate travellers, and tourists alike.
Sharjah: A Strategic Gateway to the Gulf
Beyond its cultural attractions, Sharjah serves as a major aviation hub for regional connections across the UAE and neighbouring countries. The new route will allow travellers easy access to Dubai, located less than an hour away, as well as emerging destinations across the Gulf Cooperation Council region.
Air Arabia: Value-Driven Travel With Modern Fleet
Known for its cost-conscious pricing model, Air Arabia aims to offer an affordable yet comfortable travel experience on this new long-haul route. The A321neo LR will deliver increased fuel efficiency, reduced environmental impact, and improved cabin comfort—positioning the airline as a competitive option in the expanding UK–UAE market.
Looking Ahead: Strengthening Global Connectivity
The launch of the London–Sharjah direct flight marks an important milestone in Gatwick Airport’s global expansion strategy. As the airport continues targeting underserved international markets, this new UAE route underscores its long-term commitment to expanding its Middle Eastern network and enhancing international mobility for UK passengers.
With growing demand and strategic investment, the new Air Arabia service is set to redefine travel convenience between London and the UAE, opening new horizons for business, leisure, and tourism growth.
