Hilton and Marriott unveil bold expansion plans in Africa, adding 200+ hotels combined to boost tourism and hospitality infrastructure.

June 18, 2025: Two of the biggest global hotel chains, Hilton and Marriott International, have unveiled ambitious expansion plans across Africa, signaling confidence in the continent’s tourism growth and economic potential.
Hilton has announced its strategy to triple its presence in Africa, aiming to operate over 160 hotels within the next few years. The focus will be on key markets like Nigeria, Ghana, Egypt, South Africa, and Ethiopia, with a mix of full-service, midscale, and lifestyle brands.
Meanwhile, Marriott International has committed to adding 50 new hotels across Africa by 2027, bringing modern hospitality to underserved cities and tourism hotspots. The pipeline includes properties under brands such as Sheraton, Protea Hotels, Four Points by Sheraton, and Marriott.
Speaking on the expansion, a Hilton spokesperson said:
“Africa is one of the most exciting frontiers in global hospitality. With increasing travel demand and a growing middle class, we see tremendous opportunities.”
Marriott echoed similar views, stating that the brand will focus on infrastructure-friendly models, local partnerships, and job creation while offering world-class service across new destinations.
These moves are expected to significantly contribute to Africa’s tourism-driven economy and will support local employment and training programs in hospitality.
