Regional carrier Star Air has temporarily suspended all of its services from Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) just one month after launching operations at the new greenfield facility. The airline says the halt is planned to allow scheduled maintenance on its aircraft.

Star Air commenced commercial flights from NMIA shortly after the airport began handling scheduled services, connecting the emerging hub with cities such as Ahmedabad and Goa (Mopa), and indirectly affecting links to Bengalaruu and Nanded via those sectors.

In a statement, Star Air’s CEO *Simran Singh Tiwana* said the suspension is “not a suspension” in the conventional sense but a **planned pause for aircraft maintenance**, with services expected to resume once the work is completed. No firm date for the resumption has been provided, but the airline indicated the break could span about a month. Industry sources, however, suggest the pause might extend beyond that as Star Air manages its limited fleet across its wider network.

The sudden halt comes as a surprise for passengers and airport stakeholders, as the airline had been among the first to begin operations from NMIA. Efforts to reach the airport operator for comment were not immediately successful at the time of reporting.

Despite the temporary exit of Star Air, NMIA continues to scale up operations with other carriers. Airlines such as IndiGo, Air India Express and Akasa Air are currently operating an expanding schedule of domestic services to destinations including Delhi, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Goa, Lucknow, Chennai, Kochi, Ahmedabad, Coimbatore, Mangaluru, Nagpur, Jaipur and Vadodara.

The development highlights operational challenges small regional carriers can face when launching new services from emerging airports, especially with limited aircraft resources and tight maintenance schedules. For passengers booked on Star Air flights out of NMIA, the airline has advised monitoring updates directly and coordinating with its customer support for rebooking or refund options as needed.
