Global hospitality group Accor has announced the signing of a franchise agreement with Romanian investor MKS PROD to develop a new Mercure hotel in the city of Craiova, located in southern Romania.
The upcoming Mercure Craiova will be a newly built property positioned close to the city centre, offering convenient access to local attractions, shopping areas, and Craiova International Airport.
Modern Facilities for Business and Leisure Travelers
The hotel will feature 78 guestrooms designed for both comfort and functionality. Facilities will include flexible workspaces, a contemporary design inspired by local cultural elements, a modern meeting suite, an all-day restaurant, a lobby bar, fitness facilities, and on-site parking.
The project aims to serve both business and leisure travellers visiting the region, while strengthening the city's growing hospitality infrastructure.
Strengthening Accor’s Presence in Romania
According to company representatives, the signing of Mercure Craiova marks another milestone in Accor’s strategy to expand across Romania’s emerging regional hubs. The development will reinforce the Mercure brand’s position within the midscale hotel segment while supporting the country’s tourism and business travel ecosystem.
Accor currently operates around 25 hotels across Romania and maintains a strong development pipeline with approximately 40 additional properties planned under multiple brands.

Craiova has increasingly gained international attention as an emerging tourism destination in Romania. The city continues to attract visitors through its cultural events, growing business environment, and improved travel infrastructure.
