Aeroitalia Set to Operate Most Sardinian Public Service Routes
Aeroitalia has been selected to operate the majority of Sardinia’s public service obligation routes, strengthening air links between the island and mainland Italy.
Aeroitalia is set to operate five of the six public service obligation air routes serving Sardinia, giving the airline a key role in maintaining essential air connectivity for the island.
Public service routes are designed to ensure reliable and affordable air travel on routes that may not be commercially attractive but are important for residents and regional mobility. These services typically link Sardinia with major cities on the Italian mainland.
By securing most of the available routes, Aeroitalia will become one of the main carriers supporting year‑round travel between Sardinia and the rest of Italy. The operations are expected to focus on stability, regular schedules, and continuity of service.
Regional connectivity remains a priority for Italian aviation policy, particularly for island communities that depend heavily on air transport. Airlines operating PSO routes play an important role in supporting economic activity and social links.
The move further strengthens Aeroitalia’s presence in the domestic market as it continues to expand its role in regional and national air services.
