JEN Maldives, Malé by Shangri-La has announced the appointment of Juan Carlos Diago as General Manager, effective 23rd March 2025.

Juan Carlos brings over 40 years of distinguished leadership experience across two continents, covering 9 resorts and 12 city hotels. A passionate, energetic, and world-class hotelier, Juan Carlos has an exceptional track record in elevating service standards, driving financial performance, and enhancing the overall guest experience. His impressive career journey spans top global hospitality brands such as Hilton Hotels & Resorts, Shangri-La Hotels & Resorts, InterContinental Hotels Group, Marriot International, and Universal Music Hotels & Resorts, among others.

Fluent in English, Spanish, Portuguese, and several Asian languages, Juan Carlos combines his multicultural expertise with proven excellence in strategic sales & marketing, revenue management, asset management, and digital transformation, including the adoption of Artificial Intelligence tools for business optimization.

His extensive international background includes key leadership roles in major cities like Bangkok, Manila, Surabaya, Penang, Miami, Cartagena, Cancun, Rio de Janeiro, and Bogotá. His hands-on experience with pre-openings, major renovations, and all-inclusive resort operations positions him perfectly to lead JEN Maldives into an exciting new era of growth and innovation.

Prior to this appointment, Juan Carlos served as the Senior Hotel Consultant and Development Advisor for Universal Music Hotels & Resorts, supporting their expansion across South America and the Caribbean. His previous roles include General Manager at esteemed properties such as Hotel Live Aqua Mexico City, Hotel Estelar Cartagena de Indias, and the iconic Hotel Westin Camino Real Guatemala, where he achieved record-breaking guest satisfaction scores and financial results.

Juan Carlos is also pursuing advanced certifications from the prestigious École Hôtelière de Lausanne, focusing on Hotel Asset Management and Hotel Development and Real Estate Investment, further reinforcing his commitment to continuous learning and excellence.
