The Italian football club Juventus visited the Maldives on 10 April as part of its 127th anniversary commemorations under the ‘Extreme Fields’ campaign.
The visit included former Netherlands international and former Juventus player Edgar Davids, who was joined by a group of Juventus supporters from various countries. The team travelled to ADh. Mahibadhoo, where they played a match at the Pele Stadium.
The ‘Extreme Fields’ campaign, launched to mark the club’s anniversary, includes matches held in unique locations across the world. Future matches under the campaign are scheduled to take place in New York and Denmark.
During the visit, Juventus shared images and videos from the Maldives across its official social media platforms. The club’s TikTok account featured footage of the team playing on the island’s pitch, with visuals capturing the surrounding beach and sea.
A video published by the club also highlighted how football is typically played by locals in the Maldives. Additional footage showed the setting around Pele Stadium. Freestyler Ben Black, who took part in the event, commented on the pitch’s location, describing it as one of the most distinctive venues for football.
The videos have garnered thousands of views across platforms.
The club also acknowledged the support and hospitality extended by residents of Mahibadhoo. In its social media posts, Juventus referred to the Maldives as the starting point of the ‘Extreme Fields’ campaign and expressed appreciation for the local experience.
In November last year, discussions were held between Maldivian officials and representatives from Juventus regarding the potential for tourism promotion and opportunities in sports tourism.
