Mizoram to Get Its First Four-Star Hotel as Hotel Polo Towers Signs PPP Deal

Hotel Polo Towers Ltd, the Shillong-based hospitality group, is set to build Mizoram's first four-star hotel after signing a concession agreement with the state government to redevelop the government-owned Chaltlang Tourist Lodge in Aizawl.

The pact, inked under a Public-Private Partnership model, was formalized at the Chief Minister's Office in Aizawl. Vanlaldina Fanai, Commissioner and Secretary of Mizoram's Tourism Department, signed on behalf of the state, while Prashant Gupta, CFO and Whole-time Director of Hotel Polo Towers, represented the company.

The development carries added weight because Mizoram is currently the only Indian state without a hotel rated four-star or above. State officials are counting on the project to boost tourism infrastructure, draw fresh investment, and generate local jobs.

Deal Terms

Hotel Polo Towers will handle design, construction, financing, operations, and maintenance under a 30-year concession, with room for extension. The property will open with a minimum of 60 rooms, scalable to 100, and will include a round-the-clock multi-cuisine coffee shop, a specialty restaurant, a lounge, a gym, and a spa.

Construction standards are being pitched high enough to allow a future upgrade to five-star status. The state is expected to hand over the site within 45 days, after which construction will begin.

Company Footprint

Hotel Polo Towers already runs nine properties across the Northeast and has seven more in the pipeline, including PPP projects in Meghalaya, Nagaland, and Tripura, plus a venture with Indian Railways. The Mizoram deal extends its regional dominance at a time when Northeast states are increasingly courting high-end hospitality investment.
