Portugal remains a strategic growth market for IHG as demand for luxury and lifestyle accommodations continues to rise among domestic and international travelers.
Braga Chosen for Its Cultural and Tourism Appeal
Located in northern Portugal, Braga is widely recognized for its historic architecture, cultural landmarks, and vibrant city center. The destination attracts visitors seeking heritage experiences, religious tourism, and authentic Portuguese culture.
The new hotel will occupy two converted buildings in the heart of the city, allowing guests easy access to Braga’s historic attractions, restaurants, and cultural venues.
“This signing marks an exciting next chapter for Vignette Collection in Portugal and reflects the strong momentum we continue to see for the brand across Southern Europe,” said Willemijn Geels, Vice President Development, Europe, IHG Hotels & Resorts.
Luxury Hospitality Meets Local Character
Esperança Hotel aims to combine luxury hospitality with Braga’s distinctive local identity. The project aligns with the Vignette Collection brand philosophy, which focuses on preserving the individuality of each property while connecting hotels to a global hospitality platform.
Hotel Janes LDA, led by CEO Luciana Borges, selected the brand to create a hotel experience that reflects Braga’s history while appealing to modern international travelers.
“Braga always surprises those who discover it. It has a unique authenticity that respects history while embracing the future,” said Luciana Borges, CEO of Hotel Janes LDA.
Amazing Evolution to Oversee Operations
Independent hotel management company Amazing Evolution will manage the property upon opening. The company will oversee day-to-day operations, guest services, and commercial strategy while supporting the hotel's positioning within Portugal’s growing luxury hospitality segment.
The partnership combines local operational expertise with IHG’s international brand standards and global reach.
Vignette Collection Continues Global Growth
Since launching in 2021, Vignette Collection has become one of IHG’s fastest-growing luxury and lifestyle brands. The collection currently includes hotels across key international destinations and continues to expand through conversions and independent hotel partnerships.
Across Europe, the brand currently operates six hotels and has 17 additional properties in development, highlighting strong owner interest in flexible luxury branding solutions.
Portugal Remains a Key Hospitality Investment Market
Portugal continues to attract hospitality investment due to its growing tourism sector, strong international visitor demand, and expanding luxury travel market. New hotel developments across Lisbon, Porto, Cascais, and Braga reflect investor confidence in the country’s long-term tourism potential.
The opening of Esperança Hotel is expected to contribute to Braga’s hospitality offering while supporting local tourism growth and strengthening the city’s appeal among international visitors.
