The Burunu Boma International Sportsfishing Tournament 2025 is officially underway, setting the stage for an exciting three-day competition from 2 May to 4 May. Now recognized as a premier global angling event, this year’s tournament has drawn top-tier international teams to the pristine waters of the Maldives for an unforgettable showdown.

Nine elite teams departed yesterday from various locations across the region and have already cast their lines into action as of early this morning, with the official “lines in” time set at 5:00 AM and “lines out” at 18:30 daily.

Early reports confirm that the tournament has kicked off with a bang, videos received from teams show sailfish and other species already caught, proving both the productivity of the Maldivian seas and the high level of competition this year.

Teams are fishing in diverse locations across the Maldives, strategically chosen to maximize opportunities and showcase the region’s rich marine biodiversity. The energy on the water is intense, with each team bringing advanced skills and strategy to secure victory in what is shaping up to be a closely fought contest.
