Corinthia Hotels Appoints Mohammed Wazir as General Manager of Corinthia Gewan Island Qatar

Corinthia Hotels has announced the appointment of Mohammed Wazir as General Manager of Corinthia Gewan Island Qatar, a landmark luxury project scheduled to open in early 2027. The property will mark the brand’s debut in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) region and represents a significant step in Corinthia’s global expansion strategy.

With more than two decades of experience in luxury hospitality, Wazir brings extensive leadership expertise in hotel openings, destination resorts, and brand development across international markets. His appointment reflects the company’s commitment to placing experienced leaders at the helm of its most important new developments.

Leading the Launch of Corinthia’s First GCC Property

As General Manager, Mohammed Wazir will oversee the pre‑opening phase and full operational launch of Corinthia Gewan Island Qatar. His responsibilities will include managing the hotel’s operational strategy, implementing brand standards, and ensuring a seamless guest experience when the property opens.

The resort is located on Gewan Island in Qatar and will serve as a luxury destination designed to blend contemporary design with Corinthia’s signature hospitality. The opening will represent the brand’s first hotel in the GCC and a key milestone in its regional expansion plans.

A Hospitality Leader with Global Experience

Wazir is widely recognized in the hospitality industry for his leadership across luxury resorts and high‑profile hotel openings. Prior to returning to Corinthia Hotels, he held senior general management roles with leading international hospitality brands including Anantara and Habitas.

During his career, he has led several prominent properties such as Banana Island Resort Doha by Anantara, Al Baleed Resort Salalah by Anantara, and Our Habitas Ras Abrouq in Qatar. In these roles, he was credited with enhancing guest experiences, strengthening brand positioning, and delivering strong commercial performance.

Returning to the Corinthia Brand

This appointment marks a return to the Corinthia brand for Wazir, who previously held operational leadership roles across multiple Corinthia properties. Earlier in his career, he played a key role in the opening of Corinthia London as Executive Assistant Manager, helping establish the hotel’s operational culture and service philosophy.

He also worked across several Corinthia properties in cities including Prague, St Petersburg, London, Malta, and Tripoli. This extensive experience provides him with a deep understanding of the brand’s operational standards and hospitality philosophy.

Expanding Corinthia’s Global Portfolio

The opening of Corinthia Gewan Island Qatar is part of the company’s broader strategy to expand its presence in key international markets. The luxury property will showcase the brand’s “grand boutique” concept, combining refined design, high‑end hospitality services, and a strong sense of place.

Beyond Qatar, Corinthia Hotels is also planning further global growth, including the future opening of Corinthia Dubai scheduled for 2030. These developments reflect the brand’s ambition to strengthen its position within the global luxury hospitality sector.

Looking Ahead

Mohammed Wazir’s appointment signals Corinthia Hotels’ confidence in experienced leadership to guide the launch of one of its most important upcoming properties. As the hospitality industry continues to evolve, strong operational expertise and strategic vision will be essential in delivering exceptional guest experiences.

Under Wazir’s leadership, Corinthia Gewan Island Qatar is expected to become a prominent luxury destination in the Middle East when it opens its doors in 2027.
