The Jammu and Kashmir Private Employees Federation (JKPUF) has welcomed the appointment of a Union Territory (UT)-level nodal officer for the 8th Pay Commission, describing it as a constructive step toward addressing long-standing pay revision concerns of employees.

The Administrative Secretary of the Finance Departmenthas been designated as the UT-Level Nodal Officer for the 8th Pay Commission in Jammu and Kashmir.

The appointment was formalized through Government Order No. 182-JK(GAD) of 2026, dated February 11, 2026. This role was assigned to M. Raju, IAS, who serves as the Commissioner/Secretary to the Government, Finance Department.

 In a statement issued, JKPUF Chairman Abdul Qayoom Wani lauded the Government of  J&K for taking this timely and significant administrative step. He described the nomination as a “progressive and reassuring measure” that reflects the Government’s seriousness towards addressing the genuine concerns of employees and pensioners of the Union Territory.

According to the federation, the appointment is expected to streamline coordination between departments and ensure effective communication regarding pay-related matters.

The move is seen as a significant administrative development in the context of implementing recommendations related to salary restructuring and allowances. JKPUF representatives expressed optimism that the designated nodal officer will facilitate timely submission of data, clarification of anomalies, and structured engagement with stakeholders.

 They also emphasised the importance of transparency and regular updates as the process advances. The 8th Pay Commission is anticipated to review and recommend revisions in pay scales and service conditions for government employees. The appointment of a UT-level nodal officer is viewed as a preparatory step aimed at ensuring smoother implementation once recommendations are formalised.

The federation has urged authorities to maintain momentum and prioritise employee welfare as deliberations related to the pay commission move forward.
