Tourist arrivals in Maldives surpass 800,000 in 2025

The number of tourists visiting the Maldives this year has surpassed 800,000, according to data released by the Ministry of Tourism.

As of Saturday, 806,110 tourists had arrived in the Maldives. This figure marks a 7.6 percent increase compared to the 749,225 arrivals recorded during the same period last year.

A total of 173,692 tourists visited the Maldives during the month, reflecting a 19.6 percent rise from the 145,221 arrivals in the corresponding month of the previous year.

The five countries contributing the highest number of tourists so far this year are:

  1. China – 87,731 arrivals (10.9 percent of total arrivals)
  2. United Kingdom – 85,690 arrivals (10.6 percent)
  3. Russia – 82,833 arrivals (10.3 percent)
  4. Italy – 74,437 arrivals (9.2 percent)
  5. Germany – 62,346 arrivals (7.7 percent)

Other significant source markets include India, France, the United States, Switzerland, and Poland.

Accommodation preferences among tourists during this period were reported as follows:

  • Resorts – 70.2 percent
  • Guesthouses – 24.2 percent
  • Hotels – 3 percent
  • Liveaboard vessels – 2.5 percent

The government has set a target of attracting 2.5 million tourists by the end of the year.
