EAST DULWICH, London, May 28, 2026 — Kokum, the modern Indian restaurant at 58–60 East Dulwich Road, has launched its outdoor barbecue terrace for summer 2026, returning the open-air Indian grilling experience that proved popular with south-east London diners last year and expanding it this season following strong demand.
The BBQ terrace runs Thursday through Saturday each week until the end of September on Kokum's 48-seat outdoor space, with dishes grilled to order from a rotating weekly menu built around Kokum's signature spice blends. The terrace is covered, allowing the barbecue service to continue regardless of weather conditions across the summer season.
The return of the BBQ terrace accompanies a wider expansion of Kokum's offering in 2026, which has seen the restaurant introduce all-day dining, a new front bar and lounge, and a programme of monthly cookery classes led by head chef and co-founder Sanjay Gour, all adding to a south-east London dining destination that has grown considerably since it first opened in July 2023.
What the Kokum BBQ Terrace Serves in Summer 2026
The barbecue menu rotates weekly, with each edition built around marinated meats, fish, and seasonal vegetables freshly grilled to order on the terrace. The current summer line-up features Firecracker Chicken Wings seasoned with tandoori spice, coriander, and lime; Whole Baby Chicken prepared with a special house marinade; and Smoky Lamb Ribs finished with lemon, salt, pepper, and cumin, a preparation that draws on the bold flavour layering central to Kokum's cooking philosophy across the full menu.
Both meat and vegetarian dishes feature across the rotating grill selection. All dishes are available alongside warm, freshly made naan, draught beer, and items from Kokum's main à la carte menu, which continues to run inside the restaurant during BBQ terrace service. The combination allows diners to move between the outdoor grilled format and Kokum's wider menu of modern Indian dishes, including its well-regarded Butter Chicken, Sticky Pork Ribs, and Malvani Fish, within the same visit.
Private BBQ Events Available at Kokum This Summer
In addition to the regular Thursday through Saturday terrace service, Kokum is offering private BBQ events with bespoke menus tailored to individual occasions. The format covers a range of event scales, from intimate group dinners to larger private bookings, with the kitchen adapting the grill menu to the occasion, spanning classic barbecue formats to contemporary Indian-inspired grilling depending on the preferences of the group.
The private events option extends the commercial reach of the terrace beyond walk-in and reservation diners, positioning Kokum as a summer venue choice for corporate events, celebrations, and neighbourhood gatherings in the Southwark and East Dulwich area.
Kokum's 2026 Expansion: All-Day Dining, Bar Lounge and Cookery Classes
The BBQ terrace returns as part of a year of growth for Kokum. Earlier in 2026, the restaurant launched all-day dining and transformed its front-of-house into a bar and lounge serving draught beers, cocktails, and Indian-inspired snacks including Madras Chicken Pasty, Battered Jumbo Chilli, and Naan Bites. The bar and lounge area now operates throughout the day, giving the restaurant a daytime presence that complements its evening dining and weekend roast formats.
A series of monthly cookery classes led by Gour began in April and runs through August 2026, covering areas including foundational curry techniques, street food, bread-making, and live fire grilling. Gour's professional background, which includes time at MICHELIN-starred restaurants Gymkhana and Murano by Angela Hartnett, informs both the classes and the kitchen's approach at Kokum.
Kokum was founded by Gour and Simeron Lily Patel, who previously built and operated the MICHELIN-rated restaurants Dastaan and Black Salt Sheen before bringing their modern Indian cooking approach to an East Dulwich neighbourhood site. The restaurant's private dining room, which seats up to 24, hosts regular supper clubs focused on regional Indian cuisine alongside its private hire function.
The BBQ terrace at Kokum runs Thursday through Saturday each week throughout summer at 58–60 East Dulwich Road, London SE22 9AX. Bookings can be made by calling 020 3551 1883 or through the restaurant's website. Private BBQ events can be arranged directly with the team.
