Orion Financial Announces Executive Leadership Appointments

Orion Financial has announced key additions to its executive leadership team as part of its strategic focus on innovation, growth, and member experience in an increasingly digital and competitive financial landscape. 

 The company named  Daren “DJ” Purnell Jr. as Chief Information Officer (CIO) and Scott Sorin as Chief Revenue Officer (CRO), reinforcing its commitment to modernizing technology systems and strengthening revenue strategy. 

Daren “DJ” Purnell Jr. Appointed Chief Information Officer

Purnell joins Orion Financial as CIO, where he will lead the organization’s technology and data strategy. A graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, he holds an MBA and PhD from George Washington University along with a master’s degree in data science from Northwestern University. Prior to his new role, Purnell served as Deputy Director of Data and Chief Data Officer for the U.S. Department of the Treasury’s Office of Financial Research. 

In his capacity as CIO, Purnell will focus on enhancing secure, modern systems and leveraging data to support better financial services for members, aligning with the credit union’s broader technology roadmap.

Scott Sorin Named Chief Revenue Officer

Scott Sorin has joined Orion Financial as CRO, bringing a strong background in relationship‑driven revenue strategy in banking and mortgage lending. Sorin previously founded Secure Mortgage LLC and served as Director of Operations for Community Mortgage, contributing to revenue growth and operational efficiency in competitive markets. 

 As CRO, Sorin will help guide the organization’s revenue growth initiatives, deepen member relationships, and support long‑term financial performance.
