Hospitality Veteran Erin Proud Named GM of The Whale Narooma

The Whale Narooma has announced the appointment of experienced luxury hotelier Erin Proud as General Manager ahead of the boutique coastal hotel’s highly anticipated opening in early 2026.

Located on the far South Coast of New South Wales, Australia, the upcoming property will form part of Merivale’s expanding hospitality portfolio in Narooma. Proud’s appointment marks a key milestone as the hotel moves closer to welcoming its first guests.

Experienced Leadership for a New Boutique Destination

Erin Proud brings more than two decades of experience in luxury hospitality to the role, having worked across major international hotel markets including London, Asia, the United States, and Australia.

Prior to joining The Whale Narooma, she served as General Manager at Spicers Peak Lodge, where she was responsible for overseeing operations and delivering a highly personalized luxury guest experience.

Earlier in her career, Proud held senior roles at several renowned hospitality brands and properties, including The Savoy in London, Raffles Beijing, Fairmont Grand Del Mar in California, and Rosewood Miramar Beach in the United States.

Leading the Pre‑Opening and Operational Launch

As General Manager, Proud will oversee the hotel’s pre‑opening phase and lead operational preparations ahead of the official launch. Her responsibilities include building and training the hotel team, establishing operational systems, and shaping the guest experience.

She will also play an important role in developing the property’s service culture while strengthening connections with the local community and tourism partners.

The appointment reflects the ambition behind the project, with the hotel positioned to become a flagship boutique destination on the South Coast.

A Design‑Led Coastal Boutique Hotel

The Whale Narooma is being developed as a 1970s‑inspired boutique hotel overlooking the South Pacific Ocean and Narooma Inlet. The property will feature 19 guestrooms designed to deliver an intimate and design‑focused stay experience.

The hotel will incorporate wellness facilities including a heated magnesium pool, sauna, and ice bath, catering to travelers seeking relaxation and rejuvenation in a coastal setting.

Guests will also have access to dining at Queen Chow, a waterfront restaurant known for Cantonese‑inspired cuisine featuring locally sourced seafood and produce.

Supporting Narooma’s Growing Tourism Appeal

The Whale Narooma is expected to play a significant role in strengthening the region’s hospitality offering and attracting domestic and international travelers to the New South Wales South Coast.

Once open, the property will join Merivale’s existing venues in Narooma, including Quarterdeck, Lynch’s Hotel, The Inlet, and Surf Beach Holiday Park, creating a diverse hospitality cluster in the destination.

With Erin Proud leading the property, The Whale Narooma aims to deliver a distinctive boutique hotel experience combining coastal charm, refined hospitality, and world‑class service standards.
