HOLLYWOOD, Calif., May 27, 2026 — ABL, a new restaurant that blends Jamaican and Chinese culinary traditions under one roof, is now open in Hollywood at 1649 Cahuenga Blvd., bringing the team behind the well-regarded A Beautiful Life in Little Tokyo into a larger neighborhood dining market with a broader, fusion-forward menu.
The restaurant is a Black-owned concept that builds on the Jamaican foundation A Beautiful Life established in Downtown Los Angeles, now layering Chinese techniques and ingredients into the cooking to create a crossover menu not commonly seen in the city's dining landscape.
The Hollywood opening comes as Los Angeles diners increasingly embrace restaurants that blend diaspora cuisines into unified, original concepts, and ABL enters that space with a menu built for both the curious first-time visitor and the loyal guest who already knows the original location.
What ABL's Jamaican-Chinese Fusion Menu Offers in Hollywood
The menu draws its identity from the overlap between two culinary traditions that share more common ground than most diners might expect. Several dishes put that connection front and center.
ABL's kitchen produces oxtail egg rolls, oxtail lo mein and oxtail mac-and-cheese, each taking the slow-braised Jamaican staple and threading it through different Chinese-influenced forms. Citrus-ginger branzino and curry mango sticky rice round out the Chinese-leaning side of the menu, while jerk lamb chops and escovitch snapper anchor the Jamaican cooking traditions the team built its name on.
Jerk-fried oysters appear on the menu as well, combining a preparation method central to Chinese-American cooking with the spiced, smoky seasoning profile that defines Jamaican jerk cuisine. For lunch service, the kitchen offers jerk chicken sandwiches and an escovitch sandwich made with buttermilk-battered fried rock fish.
Dessert and Cocktails at ABL Hollywood
The dessert program at ABL leans into flavor combinations that feel at home on both sides of the menu's cultural divide. Vanilla rum ice cream is paired with blue cornmeal festival, a fried Jamaican dumpling, popped sorghum and grains of paradise, a West African pepper that brings warmth and floral notes without the heat of chili.
On the drinks side, the cocktail list takes a similar fusion approach. A passionfruit lychee martini heads the current list, pairing a tropical fruit common to Jamaican drinks with lychee, a staple of Chinese cuisine and Chinese-American restaurant culture.
A Beautiful Life's Path from Little Tokyo to Hollywood
A Beautiful Life established itself as one of Downtown Los Angeles' most distinctive Jamaican restaurants, drawing crowds to its original location in Little Tokyo with a party-forward atmosphere, bass-heavy playlists, tropical cocktails, and a menu built around dishes like oxtail mac and cheese, jerk shrimp and rasta pasta. A takeout-only location on Spring Street followed as demand grew.
The brand describes its culinary identity as drawing from Jamaican heritage with Asian and Indian influences, a philosophy that ABL in Hollywood takes further than any of the group's prior locations. The team opened its doors in 2013 at its flagship location in the Historic Core of Downtown Los Angeles before expanding with the new Hollywood concept.
ABL Arrives as Hollywood's Dining Scene Continues to Grow
The Cahuenga Boulevard corridor has seen consistent restaurant activity in 2026, with new concepts across multiple cuisine categories opening in the Hollywood neighborhood over recent months. ABL steps into that environment with a concept that carries established brand recognition from A Beautiful Life's Downtown following, while offering something distinct from the established location.
The restaurant is positioned as a full-service dining destination rather than a quick-service concept, with a menu designed for sharing across the table and a cocktail program that complements the food.
ABL at 1649 Cahuenga Blvd. is open now. No reservation requirement has been announced for regular service.
