NEW YORK, June 9, 2026 — Buena Vista Restaurant & Bar, the modern Latin American dining concept founded by Christian Nuñez in Hell's Kitchen in 2018, is executing one of the most aggressive expansion moves in the New York City restaurant market this year opening two Manhattan locations within three months. The East Village outpost at 88 Second Avenue opened on May 21, and a third Manhattan site is scheduled to follow in August, according to Crain's New York Business.

The pace marks a sharp acceleration for Nuñez, who spent the first eight years of the brand's life focused on a single Hell's Kitchen address at 536 9th Avenue before committing to a rapid multi-site strategy in 2026. The third location will be Buena Vista's fourth overall restaurant counting the original, and its third active site in Manhattan.

East Village Opens as a Cocktail-Forward Sibling

The East Village location spans approximately 3,284 square feet at the northeast corner of Second Avenue and Fifth Street and seats around 80 guests. Nuñez designed the space as a more bar-driven sibling to the original Hell's Kitchen dining room, with the cocktail and beverage programme taking precedence while the kitchen still serves shareable plates, croquettes and paellas.

"Buena Vista East Village represents the evolution of our brand," Nuñez said ahead of the opening. "The East Village has always been one of New York's most dynamic dining neighborhoods, and we were intentional about finding a space that supports more than just a restaurant." The location was conceived specifically around how New Yorkers "dine and socialize today," he added.

Signage for the East Village location appeared at the corner of Second Avenue and Fifth Street as early as late January, drawing attention from local neighbourhood blogs before the formal opening announcement.

A Brand Rooted in Euro-Caribbean Cooking

Buena Vista launched in 2018 as an upscale restaurant serving modern Euro-Caribbean food, drawing from the culinary traditions of Cuba, the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Mexico and South America. The menu at the original Hell's Kitchen location was developed by chef Rene Hernandez, whose training in Barcelona informs the Spanish-Latin fusion approach the brand has become known for.

Signature dishes across the restaurants include crispy croquettes with garlic aioli, green plantain with piquillo and manchego, seafood and lobster bisque, and paella. The craft cocktail programme has been central to the brand's identity from the start, and the East Village format doubles down on that positioning.

A Family in Restaurants Since 2010

Nuñez grew up in a restaurant family and took over his father's Midtown venue, International Food House Restaurant & Buffet, in 2010, rebranding it as Café Nuñez. Located two blocks north of Madison Square Garden, the concept built its following on pre- and post-event dining for basketball and concert crowds. Eight years later, Nuñez launched Buena Vista to pursue a more elevated Latin dining concept, and the brand has grown steadily in reputation and reach since.

The August third location will give Buena Vista a presence across three distinct Manhattan neighbourhoods Hell's Kitchen, the East Village and a third area yet to be publicly confirmed within the same calendar year, representing a meaningful bet on the continued strength of the city's dining market.
