Supreme Court Appoints Dr TCA Anant as Technical Consultant to National Task Force on Student Suicide Prevention

In the matter of Amit Kumar v. Union of India & Ors. (2026 INSC 128), the Supreme Court of India has appointed Dr TCA Anant as Technical Consultant to assist the National Task Force constituted to address student suicide prevention across the country.

The Court observed the need for specialised technical expertise to support the Task Force in framing comprehensive, data-driven recommendations aimed at tackling the growing concerns around student mental health and suicide prevention. Dr TCA Anant, an experienced economist and policy expert, will provide technical inputs and analytical support to strengthen the framework and functioning of the Task Force.

The appointment is part of the Court’s broader effort to ensure a structured and evidence-based approach in addressing student suicides, particularly in educational institutions. The National Task Force has been tasked with examining existing mechanisms, identifying systemic gaps, and recommending preventive strategies and policy interventions.

By appointing a Technical Consultant, the Supreme Court aims to enhance the quality of research, coordination, and implementation strategies emerging from the Task Force’s deliberations, ensuring that its recommendations are robust, actionable, and aligned with national priorities.
