Malmaison and Hotel du Vin in Newcastle have appointed Malissa Charlton as Cluster Sales Manager, placing her in charge of commercial performance across both properties. With more than 20 years of experience in the hospitality sector, Charlton brings transatlantic expertise to the role, having worked extensively in both the United States and the United Kingdom.
Appointment to Lead Commercial Strategy Across Two Hotels
In her new position, Charlton is responsible for overseeing sales strategy and driving revenue growth for both Malmaison Newcastle and Hotel du Vin Newcastle. Her role includes strengthening client relationships, identifying new business opportunities, and increasing brand visibility across the local and regional markets.
She took up the role in late February and is focused on enhancing commercial performance while aligning sales initiatives with the distinct positioning of each property.
Focus on Revenue Growth and Market Positioning
Charlton’s responsibilities include developing targeted sales strategies, expanding the client base, and supporting revenue optimisation efforts. She is also tasked with elevating the profile of both hotels, ensuring they remain competitive within Newcastle’s hospitality landscape.
Malmaison Newcastle, located on the Quayside near the Gateshead Millennium Bridge, has recently undergone upgrades to its rooms and public areas, reinforcing its position as a key hospitality destination in the area. Hotel du Vin Newcastle, situated in a restored Edwardian building near the Ouseburn district, offers boutique accommodation and is known for its French-inspired cuisine.
Her role involves balancing the unique offerings of both properties while implementing cohesive sales and marketing initiatives to drive occupancy and revenue.
Extensive Industry Experience Across International Markets
Charlton brings over two decades of experience in hospitality sales and operations. She began her career in the United States, where she developed early expertise in large-scale hotel environments, including experience at the Gaylord Texan, a major resort known for hosting large events.
Her career has included leadership roles across a range of hospitality and event-driven organisations. Prior to joining Malmaison and Hotel du Vin, she served as Head of Sales and Marketing at Hotel Indigo Newcastle, where she was responsible for commercial strategy and client engagement.
Her professional background also includes roles at prominent venues and organisations in the North East of England, including Newcastle United Football Club and the BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Arts, where she gained experience in high-profile event management and stakeholder relations.
