IHCL Signs Taj Mohali, Bets on Punjab’s IT and Wedding Boom
IHCL signs a 225-key Taj hotel in Mohali, expanding its Punjab footprint with a greenfield project targeting IT growth and large-format weddings.
Indian Hotels Company (IHCL) has announced the signing of a Taj hotel in Mohali, Punjab, marking a strategic greenfield expansion in one of the state’s fastest-growing urban centres.
The move underscores IHCL’s focus on emerging commercial and lifestyle destinations beyond metro cities, as Mohali continues to evolve into a major IT, business, and residential hub within the Chandigarh tri-city region.
Commenting on the expansion, Suma Venkatesh, Executive Vice President – Real Estate & Development, IHCL, highlighted the city’s growing relevance within the group’s development strategy. She noted that Mohali’s rise as a thriving IT and commercial centre, combined with Punjab’s increasing popularity as a destination for weddings and social celebrations, makes it a compelling market for luxury hospitality investment.
The upcoming Taj Mohali will be a 225-key hotel offering uninterrupted views of the surrounding greenery, positioning it as a resort-like urban retreat. The hotel will feature an all-day dining restaurant, a bar, and a specialty restaurant, catering to both resident guests and the city’s growing social and corporate clientele.
Leisure and wellness amenities will include a swimming pool, gym, health club, and the brand’s signature J Wellness Circle, reinforcing Taj’s emphasis on holistic luxury experiences.
A key differentiator for the property will be its expansive banqueting facilities. With over 26,000 square feet of event space, Taj Mohali is set to house the largest banqueting venue in the region, targeting large-scale weddings, corporate conventions, and high-profile social events.
With the signing of Taj Mohali, IHCL’s portfolio in Punjab will expand to 14 hotels, including seven properties currently under development, strengthening the group’s leadership position in the state’s hospitality landscape.
