Four Arrested After 14-Year-Old Girl Drugged and Gang-Raped in Durgapur

DURGAPUR — A 14-year-old girl is currently under medical care after being abducted, drugged, and gang-raped in a hotel in the Kaviguru area of Durgapur’s City Centre. The Asansol-Durgapur Police have confirmed the arrest of four individuals in connection with the case, including the woman who allegedly lured the victim from her home and the local hotel manager who allowed the assault to unfold on his premises.

One suspect remains on the run. The manhunt is active.

The Sequence of Events

The victim’s father filed a formal complaint detailing a harrowing timeline. According to the report, the girl was persuaded to leave her home at roughly 1:30 p.m. this past Saturday by a woman identified as Simran Tamang.

Here’s the thing: the girl didn't stand a chance. Once she was ushered into a waiting four-wheeler, she was reportedly forced to consume alcohol laced with an intoxicating substance. By the time they reached the hotel in the City Centre, the girl was unconscious.

The complaint alleges that once inside, the victim was subjected to a brutal gang rape by several men, including Raj Mallik and Sheikh Azharuddin. After the assault, the group reportedly dumped the girl near a bypass. She was finally found around 10:30 p.m. by an e-rickshaw driver, who brought her back to her neighborhood in a dazed, heavily intoxicated state.

Police Action and Forensic Findings

Asansol-Durgapur Police Commissioner Praveen Kumar stated that the investigation moved quickly. Forensic teams have already processed the hotel room, bagging samples that will be vital once this hits the trial phase.

The victim is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital in Bidhannagar.

  • Suspects in custody: Simran Tamang, Raj Mallik, Sheikh Azharuddin, and the hotel manager.
  • Status of the fifth suspect: Still at large; police are tracking leads.

Look, the speed of these arrests is standard, but you can feel the pressure mounting on the department. The commissioner says the victim’s medical examination is complete, and they’ve got enough evidence to keep the momentum going.

Political Fallout and Public Outrage

The atmosphere in Durgapur is heavy. People are angry, and frankly, they have every right to be. This wasn't just a random act; it was a calculated abduction.

A Call for "Encounters"

BJP leader Parijat Ganguly visited the family at the hospital and didn't mince words. He called the actions of the accused "beyond tolerance."

What’s interesting, or perhaps just grimly predictable, is how quickly the rhetoric escalated. Ganguly argued that keeping these men in jail isn't enough. He publicly demanded that the police kill the accused in an encounter, claiming that until the law instills a visceral fear in criminals, these cycles of violence won't stop.

When pressed on whether he thought the state government was trying to cover it up, he actually walked it back slightly. He admitted the police are doing their job for now and noted that the victim’s family still holds onto some shred of faith in the judicial process.

The Father’s Plea

The father’s statement was raw. He isn't looking for a lengthy trial or rehabilitation. He stood in front of reporters and demanded the death penalty—specifically, capital punishment for every person who touched his daughter.

"I appeal to the Chief Minister to ensure the strictest punishment," he said.

The truth is, he’s like any parent in this position: he wants blood for what was stolen from his child. Whether the system can satisfy that demand without turning into a vigilante mob is the question hanging over the entire district today. For now, the police have the suspects, and the girl has a long, difficult recovery ahead. according to india today .
