Global Hotel Alliance (GHA) and The Leela Palaces, Hotels and Resorts said Indian travellers are increasing their spending across domestic and international stays in 2026, based on recent booking and loyalty programme data, highlighting stronger demand and higher average transaction values from Indian guests.

The findings were released in March 2026 through joint insights shared by both organisations, which track guest behaviour through GHA’s loyalty platform and The Leela’s property-level performance metrics. The data reflects travel patterns observed over the past year across multiple destinations.

Rising spending across domestic and international travel

According to the data, Indian guests have increased their average spend per stay, both within India and in international markets. GHA said the trend is visible across its network of hotels, where Indian travellers are contributing a larger share of total revenue compared to previous years.

The Leela reported similar patterns across its properties, with higher spending recorded on room bookings, dining and ancillary services. Company officials said guests are opting for longer stays and additional services during their visits.

“Indian travellers are demonstrating stronger purchasing power and engagement across multiple segments,” a GHA representative said, noting that spending levels have risen consistently since 2025.

Loyalty programme data indicates higher engagement

GHA’s loyalty programme data showed an increase in repeat bookings and membership activity among Indian users. The organisation said Indian members are among the fastest-growing segments within its global network.

The data also indicated that Indian travellers are redeeming loyalty rewards more frequently, particularly for international stays. This suggests a growing familiarity with global travel networks and structured booking platforms.

The Leela said participation in loyalty programmes has contributed to higher direct bookings and improved guest retention rates at its properties.

International travel demand expands

Both organisations reported that Indian travellers are increasingly booking stays in international destinations, including Europe, the Middle East and Southeast Asia. GHA said outbound travel from India has shown steady growth in early 2026.

The Leela noted that its guests are extending travel itineraries to include multiple destinations, with international travel often combined with domestic stays. This has contributed to higher overall trip spending.

Industry officials said improved air connectivity and visa access have supported the increase in outbound travel demand.

Domestic hospitality sector benefits from demand

Within India, hotel operators have reported strong occupancy and revenue growth driven by domestic travellers. The Leela said its properties have benefited from increased demand across leisure and business segments.

GHA added that India remains a key growth market within its global network, with domestic travel contributing significantly to overall performance metrics.

Executives said Indian travellers are showing greater preference for organised hotel stays, contributing to higher occupancy levels across branded properties.

Industry outlook and positioning

Both organisations said the rise in Indian travel spending is expected to continue through 2026, supported by economic growth and increasing consumer confidence. GHA indicated that it will continue expanding partnerships in India to capture this demand.

The Leela said it is focusing on strengthening its presence in key destinations and enhancing service offerings to cater to evolving guest expectations.

Industry participants noted that Indian travellers are becoming a significant contributor to global hospitality revenues, particularly in markets with established tourism infrastructure.

Current status

Global Hotel Alliance and The Leela confirmed that Indian travel demand and spending remain strong as of March 2026, with both organisations continuing to monitor booking trends and expand their presence in response to sustained growth.
