The Government of Meghalaya has officially handed over land in Tura to the InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) for the development of a new Holiday Inn Resort, a major step in expanding premium hospitality infrastructure in the state’s Garo Hills region.

Part of Broader Growth Vision

Meghalaya’s Chief Minister emphasised that developing high‑end hospitality assets like this resort is part of a larger economic vision. By expanding premium tourism infrastructure, the state aims to create jobs, boost local businesses, and position destinations beyond Shillong on the national tourism map.

Local Economic and Tourism Impact

Officials noted that the resort project will not only enhance Tura’s accommodation capacity but also lay the groundwork for economic growth in the Garo Hills, encouraging investment and travel demand in a region previously underexplored by luxury hospitality brands.

Conclusion

The land handover for the Holiday Inn Resort in Tura marks a major milestone in Meghalaya’s efforts to elevate its tourism infrastructure, diversify hospitality options, and attract visitors to the scenic Garo Hills region.
