Scafell Hotel Reopening 2026 is set for Monday, October 26, after more than two years of closure. The historic Lake District hotel in Rosthwaite, in the Borrowdale Valley, has completed an extensive restoration. More details about the reopening will be announced soon.
In an update on October 12, the hotel called itself a Lake District favourite that is making a comeback. It said guests planning a walking adventure or a peaceful countryside getaway can look forward to its return. Details are available on the official Scafell Hotel website.
Scafell Hotel Reopening 2026 Follows a New Sale
The reopening follows the sale of the hotel earlier this year. A Manchester based investment company bought the property for an undisclosed sum. The deal was announced in March.
The new owners said they planned to restore the property and begin trading again soon. The previous operator, Scafell Hotel Ltd, was placed into creditors' voluntary liquidation earlier this year.
Why the Scafell Hotel Closed in 2024
The hotel closed in January 2024. It had been under the same ownership for more than 50 years. Before closing, it had 23 en suite bedrooms and extensive public areas.
The Riverside Bar was also part of the property. The site extends to almost five acres.
A Historic Lake District Hotel With Famous Guests
The building dates to the early 19th century. It was first built as a private residence for artist Mary Barker. It later became a coaching inn and then a hotel.
Engineer and inventor Sir Barnes Wallis was among its best known guests. He visited the hotel for more than 52 years.
