CHIPLUN, May 27, 2026: The Fern Hotels & Resorts has launched The Fern Riverview Resort Chiplun, Series by Marriott, a 37-room property in Maharashtra's Konkan region, situated approximately 225 km from Pune and 250 km from Mumbai. The resort sits about six kilometres from Chiplun Railway Station and 13 km from Chiplun Bus Stand, placing it within reach of the weekend leisure and corporate retreat market that has been steadily discovering the Konkan coast as a viable alternative to Goa and the western hill stations.

Chiplun is not a name that appeared on India's hospitality radar a decade ago. The town sits on the Vashishti river, surrounded by the dense greenery and laterite terrain of the Konkan, the kind of landscape that photographs well in every season and offers a kind of quiet that the more developed coastal destinations have largely surrendered. That combination of riverfront setting, natural beauty and relative accessibility from two of India's largest metropolitan areas makes it a sensible next target for a brand expanding its Maharashtra leisure footprint under a globally recognised flag.

The Fern Riverview Resort Chiplun Opens as a Series by Marriott Property in the Konkan Region

Suhail Kannampilly, Managing Director of The Fern Hotels & Resorts, spoke about what the Konkan represents as a leisure destination and why Chiplun specifically made sense as the brand's next Maharashtra move.

"The Konkan region is steadily gaining recognition as one of Maharashtra's emerging leisure destinations, attracting travellers with its untouched natural beauty, scenic riverfront landscapes, lush greenery, and tranquil coastal charm. With the launch of The Fern Riverview Resort Chiplun, Series by Marriott, we continue to strengthen our presence in high-growth destinations that offer immersive and experience-led stays."

The language about "immersive and experience-led stays" is not filler here, it is a deliberate positioning signal. A resort in Chiplun is not competing with a business hotel in Pune on meeting room specifications or proximity to an IT park. It is competing for a guest who wants to feel somewhere genuinely different for two or three nights, and then return to the city having actually felt it. The Konkan delivers that. The question is whether the product on the ground matches the setting it is embedded in.

Thirty-Seven Rooms, a Konkan-Inspired Restaurant and a Dedicated Meeting Space

The Fern Riverview Resort Chiplun offers 37 rooms across multiple categories, with a dining venue called Riverview Café serving as the resort's all-day restaurant. The menu draws from Indian, global and regional cuisine inspired by the flavours of the Konkan coast, which is a specific and considered choice for a region where kokum-based curries, fresh seafood preparations and Malvani spicing are genuinely distinct from anything a city hotel kitchen produces.

A dedicated meeting and event space rounds out the property's facilities, making it functional for the corporate retreat and small conference market alongside its primary leisure positioning. Companies looking to pull their teams out of Pune or Mumbai for an offsite without flying to a distant destination have a reasonably limited set of good options. A branded property with a proper meeting room in a natural setting on the Vashishti river fills a gap in that market that generic or unbranded accommodation in the region cannot fill with the same confidence.

Marriott Bonvoy Access Gives Konkan Leisure Travel a Loyalty Programme Backbone

Guests at The Fern Riverview Resort Chiplun access Marriott Bonvoy benefits as part of the Series by Marriott portfolio, a connection that matters in ways that go beyond the points accumulation. Bonvoy's 228-million-member base includes a significant proportion of India's frequent domestic travellers, and the ability to earn and redeem points at a Konkan resort creates a booking motivation that an independent property simply cannot offer. For a leisure destination like Chiplun that is trying to convert first-time visitors into repeat travellers, the loyalty infrastructure provides a direct channel back to the same guest six months later.

The opening is part of an accelerating Maharashtra expansion for The Fern Hotels & Resorts under the Series by Marriott banner. The brand partnership crossed 75 signings and 50 openings across India in under six months since its November 2025 debut, and the Chiplun launch adds another data point to what is becoming one of the fastest branded hospitality expansions across India's leisure and tier-two markets. Whether the Konkan's moment as a recognised leisure destination is just beginning or already well underway is a question the occupancies at properties like this one will answer over the next 12 months.
