The Universal Foundation has announced a series of fully funded scholarships for Maldivian citizens, aimed at enhancing the nation’s human resource capacity in both the hospitality and healthcare sectors. The initiative is part of the Foundation’s ongoing efforts to contribute to national development by investing in education and skills training.

The scholarship programme includes 37 opportunities across various levels of study, with a strong emphasis on areas critical to the Maldives’ long-term social and economic development. These include:

  • 3 postgraduate scholarships in medicine
  • 2 master’s scholarships in health facility management
  • 2 bachelor’s scholarships in occupational health and safety
  • 20 Certificate III scholarships in hospitality
  • 10 Certificate III scholarships in culinary arts

The Foundation has made it a requirement that all graduates under this scholarship programme must return to the Maldives and contribute to the country’s development following their studies. This condition is aimed at addressing pressing skill shortages, particularly in the hospitality and healthcare sectors.

The Foundation said the initiative reflects the Foundation’s mission to support nation-building through human capital development. These scholarships are a long-term investment in the people of the Maldives. By focusing on both hospitality and health, the Foundation hopes to support critical sectors that are key to the country’s future.

The 30 scholarships dedicated to hospitality and culinary education are expected to be of particular interest to those looking to build careers in the Maldives’ thriving tourism industry. As the demand for skilled local professionals in resorts and related services continues to grow, these qualifications offer a pathway for young Maldivians to enter and progress within the industry.
