BHOPAL, June 07, 2026 — A major fire tore through the Bhoj Inn restaurant in Bhopal’s Lalghati area early Sunday, reducing goods worth lakhs of rupees to ashes, officials said.
The blaze erupted around 7:30 a.m. inside the popular eatery. Fire personnel from the Bairagarh fire station reached the scene shortly after receiving the alert and brought the flames under control, preventing harm to nearby properties. No injuries or deaths were reported, according to Sub-Fire Officer Iftikhar Khan of the Bhopal Fire Service.
What Happened at the Scene
Restaurant staff and a security guard noticed thick smoke rising from the kitchen area, prompting a quick call to emergency services. Two fire tenders were dispatched and began battling the blaze upon arrival, firefighters said. The cause of the fire remains under investigation as authorities assess structural and material damage.
“The prompt response helped us contain the fire before it spread to neighbouring buildings,” Iftikhar Khan said, adding that the restaurant’s stock, furniture and equipment suffered significant loss. Investigators are yet to determine what triggered the blaze.
Damage Assessment and Response
Preliminary estimates suggest losses run into several lakhs of rupees, with much of the restaurant’s inventory gutted. Firefighters continued to monitor smouldering spots after extinguishing the main flames to prevent re-ignition. Police cordoned off the area while fire officials collected evidence.
Officials urged nearby businesses and residents to review fire safety measures, including installation of early detection systems and readily accessible fire extinguishers. Local authorities said they would issue guidance on safety compliance following the incident.
