TAIPEI, June 19, 2026 — Din Tai Fung, the Taiwanese restaurant chain known for its soup dumplings, will raise prices on selected menu items at its Taiwan restaurants by an average of about 5 percent starting June 22. The company said the change reflects higher ingredient and labor costs.
It is the chain's first price increase since June 2024, and it affects some of its best-known dishes. The company said it is still finalizing the updated menu.
The move shows how rising costs continue to reach even long-established, high-volume restaurants in Taiwan.
Din Tai Fung price increase affects xiaolongbao and rice dishes
The chain's pork xiaolongbao will rise to NT$29 (about US$0.91) per dumpling, up from NT$28, the company said. Shrimp fried rice with egg will increase to NT$320 from NT$300.
The house special spicy shrimp and pork wontons will go to NT$240 from NT$230. The company said the overall increase is expected to average around 5 percent once the menu is finalized.
Rising costs drive the increase
Din Tai Fung said the adjustments are needed to maintain food and service quality as ingredient and labor costs climb. The company framed the move as a response to operating costs rather than a change in its offering.
The chain last raised prices in June 2024, according to Taiwan's Central News Agency.
A Taiwan institution since 1958
Din Tai Fung opened in Taiwan in 1958 as a cooking oil retailer before shifting to making xiaolongbao and becoming a full restaurant by 1972. It has since grown into an international brand with branches across Asia, the United States and beyond.
The announced increase applies to the chain's Taiwan locations; its overseas restaurants are run separately and set their own prices.
Menu details for the Taiwan stores are listed on the Din Tai Fung Taiwan website.
