MODESTO, Calif., June 18, 2026 — Golden Spoon Thai has opened a second location in Modesto, bringing a menu built on authentic Thai street food to 1221 E. Orangeburg Ave. Owner Pinyo Charoensuk opened the new restaurant on June 2, expanding from his original location in Manteca.

The opening widens access to a kitchen that the family says follows traditional Thai recipes rather than familiar Thai-American standards. That focus sets Golden Spoon Thai apart in a market with several established Thai restaurants.

Golden Spoon Thai Expands From Manteca to Modesto

Charoensuk opened the first Golden Spoon Thai in Manteca in 2020. He said steady crowds and repeated suggestions from customers pushed him to add a larger second site.

His sister, Pat Cha, helps run both restaurants, along with Charoensuk's wife and Cha's husband. The family keeps a home and relatives in Thailand, including children, and travels back and forth regularly.

A Menu Built on Authentic Thai Street Food

Alongside Thai classics such as pad Thai, pad see ew, curries, larb and tom yum soup, the menu features dishes that are harder to find locally. Those include basil pork belly, grilled pork neck, pork and beef jerky, and soups such as beef blood noodle and a spicy-sour soup with pork spare ribs.

Cha said the family makes everything in the traditional Thai way and will not add a dish if it cannot source an authentic ingredient. For that reason, the restaurant does not serve massaman curry. Diners can explore a collection of Thai recipes to cook similar dishes at home.

Signature Dishes and Recommendations

The beef jerky uses strips of marbled meat cooked in Thai sauce, deep-fried and served with a scratch-made dipping sauce. Cha and Charoensuk both said his specialty is noodle dishes, especially noodle soups.

When guests ask for guidance, Charoensuk first asks whether they like spicy food. For milder palates, he often suggests iron-plate dry noodles tossed with ground pork and fish balls, or pineapple fried rice made with curry powder. "I'm happy to show people new dishes," Charoensuk said.

Charoensuk grew up in rural Thailand, where his mother cooked for the household and ran a restaurant. He later opened a restaurant in San Francisco, sold it after five years and moved to the Central Valley.

Golden Spoon Thai in Modesto is open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., with a break between 3 and 4 p.m.
