Adani Airports Duty Free Pre-Booking Launches with MakeMyTrip
Adani Airports duty free launches pre-booking with MakeMyTrip across six airports, offering 14,000+ products from 100+ brands for international travellers.
New Delhi, April 28, 2026: Adani Airport Holdings Ltd (AAHL) has partnered with MakeMyTrip to roll out a duty-free pre-booking service for international travellers across its airport network, allowing passengers to access over 14,000 products from more than 100 brands before arriving at the airport.
The initiative enables both departing and arriving international passengers to browse and pre-order duty-free items through the MakeMyTrip platform, shifting purchase decisions to the trip planning stage and reducing time spent at airport retail outlets.
Duty-Free Pre-Booking Introduced Across Key Airports
The service is available across AAHL-operated airports in Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Lucknow, Mangaluru, Jaipur, and Thiruvananthapuram. Travellers can explore more than 10 product categories, covering a wide range of global and domestic brands.
With access to over 14,000 stock keeping units (SKUs), the platform provides online-exclusive offers and enables passengers to secure purchases in advance, eliminating the need for in-terminal browsing and queuing.
Focus on Streamlining Passenger Experience
The partnership aims to improve time efficiency during airport journeys by integrating retail decisions into the travel booking process. By allowing passengers to pre-plan purchases, the model reduces congestion at duty-free outlets and enhances passenger flow across airport touchpoints.
Travellers can collect their pre-booked items either at departure or upon arrival, depending on their journey, ensuring a seamless transition between travel stages.
Integration with Digital Travel Ecosystem
The collaboration reflects a broader push toward integrated travel services, with MakeMyTrip expanding its role beyond bookings into ancillary travel experiences. The addition of duty-free pre-booking aligns with its strategy to offer end-to-end trip planning capabilities.
AAHL, which manages a growing portfolio of Indian airports, is leveraging digital platforms to enhance non-aeronautical revenue streams, particularly in retail and passenger services.
Leadership Highlights Strategy Shift
Arun Bansal, Chief Executive Officer of Adani Airport Holdings Ltd, said the initiative is designed to simplify the duty-free experience by enabling travellers to plan purchases in advance, reducing time spent at the airport while improving convenience.
Rajesh Magow, Co-founder and Group CEO of MakeMyTrip, described the partnership as part of the company’s “Connected Trips” strategy, which focuses on creating a seamless and integrated travel experience by combining booking, planning, and value-added services on a single platform.
Retail Transformation in Airport Ecosystems
The move highlights a shift in airport retail dynamics, where digital integration is becoming central to passenger engagement. By moving transactions upstream into the booking phase, airport operators are seeking to optimise retail operations while adapting to changing consumer behaviour.
With increasing adoption of digital tools in travel, pre-booking models are expected to play a larger role in shaping airport retail strategies, particularly in high-traffic international terminals.
The AAHL-MakeMyTrip collaboration underscores the growing importance of technology-driven solutions in enhancing both operational efficiency and passenger convenience within India’s aviation and hospitality ecosystem.
