GHMC Seals Taj Banjara Hotel Over ₹1.43 Crore Property Tax Dues

Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) took strict action on Wednesday by sealing the gates of the Taj Banjara Hotel, located on Road No. 1 in Banjara Hills, over unpaid property tax dues amounting to ₹1.43 crore.

Hotel Sealed After Multiple Notices

The hotel has been non-operational for the past two years. Despite several show-cause notices issued during this period, the hotel management failed to clear its dues. As a result, GHMC officials moved forward with sealing the property, confirmed Mahesh Kulkarni, the chief valuation officer of GHMC.

Partial Payment Made

Following the civic body’s action, the hotel management responded quickly by transferring ₹52 lakh through RTGS payment by 9:30 AM on Thursday. This covered approximately 50% of the outstanding dues. "We have received confirmation of the partial payment," said Kulkarni.

Remaining Dues and Future Actions

While the gates remain sealed for now, GHMC officials stated that the full clearance of dues is required for the seal to be removed. The hotel management has assured the authorities that the remaining ₹91 lakh will be paid in full by March 10.

This incident highlights GHMC’s firm stance on property tax defaulters and the necessity for businesses to comply with municipal tax regulations to avoid such penalties.
