IHCL Launches HeritEdge Celebrations Across Hotels for World Heritage Day
IHCL marks World Heritage Day with HeritEdge Celebrations across hotels, featuring cultural experiences, artisan support, and community-driven initiatives.
Mumbai, April 17, 2026: Indian Hotels Company Limited (IHCL) has launched HeritEdge Celebrations across select properties to mark World Heritage Day, with a two-day initiative focused on promoting India’s intangible cultural heritage through community engagement, artisan support, and curated guest experiences.
Held on April 17–18, the programme aligns with IHCL’s ESG+ framework, Paathya, and is designed to integrate cultural preservation with hospitality operations. The initiative spans multiple destinations and brands within IHCL’s portfolio, leveraging experiential activities to highlight traditional practices, crafts, and regional heritage.
Two-Day Programme Across Key IHCL Hotels
The HeritEdge Celebrations are being hosted across a range of IHCL properties in different regions, each offering location-specific experiences rooted in local traditions. Participating hotels include Taj Lake Palace in Udaipur, Taj Exotica Resort and Spa in Goa, Rambagh Palace in Jaipur, Taj Sawai Ranthambore, Taj Santacruz in Mumbai, and Taj Rishikesh Resort & Spa in Uttarakhand.
The activities are structured to engage both guests and employees, combining experiential learning with cultural immersion. Events include culinary sessions, heritage walks, craft workshops, and wellness practices, reflecting the diversity of India’s regional traditions.
Each property has tailored its programming to reflect its geographical and cultural context, ensuring that experiences are locally relevant while contributing to a unified brand initiative.
Focus on Intangible Cultural Heritage
The initiative places emphasis on intangible cultural heritage, including traditional crafts, culinary practices, performing arts, and oral storytelling. IHCL has positioned the programme as a platform to showcase living traditions sustained by local communities and artisans.
At Taj Lake Palace, Udaipur, activities include culinary sessions focused on reviving traditional recipes. In Goa, heritage walks through historic churches are being organised, while Rambagh Palace in Jaipur is hosting sessions centred on cultural heritage awareness.
Additional experiences include craft workshops at Taj Sawai Ranthambore, food festivals at Taj Santacruz, and wellness sessions incorporating yoga and Vedic chanting at Taj Rishikesh Resort & Spa. These offerings aim to connect guests with local culture through participatory formats.
Community Engagement and Artisan Support
A key component of the HeritEdge initiative is the integration of local communities into the hospitality ecosystem. IHCL is facilitating direct engagement between guests and artisans through interactive sessions, workshops, and curated marketplaces.
Participating hotels are hosting “Heritage Haul” pop-ups that feature region-specific crafts such as Bandhani and Rogan art from Gujarat, block printing from Rajasthan, and Tanjore paintings from Tamil Nadu. These platforms are intended to support artisan livelihoods while promoting traditional craftsmanship.
In addition, storytelling sessions for children and live cultural performances are being organised to encourage broader engagement and awareness of heritage practices.
Alignment with ESG Framework Paathya
The HeritEdge Celebrations are part of IHCL’s broader sustainability strategy under its ESG+ framework, Paathya. The programme focuses on responsible tourism practices, with an emphasis on social impact through cultural preservation and community empowerment.
According to company leadership, the initiative is designed to translate sustainability commitments into actionable programmes that benefit local stakeholders while enhancing guest experiences. The integration of cultural elements into hospitality offerings reflects a shift towards experience-led travel models.
The approach aligns with industry trends where hotels are increasingly incorporating local culture into their service design to create differentiated and meaningful guest experiences.
IHCL Portfolio and Expansion Context
IHCL operates a diversified portfolio of hospitality brands, including Taj, SeleQtions, Vivanta, Gateway, and Ginger, among others. The company currently has 628 hotels, with 255 properties in the pipeline across four continents, 14 countries, and more than 250 locations.
As India’s largest hospitality company by market capitalisation, IHCL continues to expand its presence while integrating sustainability and cultural initiatives into its operations. The HeritEdge Celebrations represent a continuation of this strategy, combining heritage promotion with experiential hospitality.
The initiative also reflects the growing importance of cultural tourism in India, where travellers are increasingly seeking immersive experiences that connect them with local traditions and communities.
