Indian Hotels Company expands skilling programme to train 42,000 youth amid rising hospitality demand

Indian Hotels Company Ltd (IHCL) is expanding its skilling initiative to train 42,000 youth across India in 2026, the company said, as it responds to rising demand for trained workforce in the hospitality sector driven by increased travel activity and hotel expansion across multiple regions.

Skilling programme scaled nationwide

IHCL confirmed that the expanded programme will cover multiple states, targeting youth for entry-level roles in hotels, restaurants and allied services. The initiative aims to address workforce shortages as the hospitality sector continues to grow across both metropolitan and regional markets.

The company said the training programme will be implemented through its network of training centres and partner institutions, with structured modules designed to align with operational requirements across hotel functions.

Training structure and curriculum

The programme will include both classroom-based instruction and practical training, covering key areas such as housekeeping, food and beverage service, front office operations and customer interaction. IHCL stated that the curriculum has been developed to meet industry standards and operational needs.

Participants will also receive training in communication, workplace conduct and service protocols, which are considered essential for employment in hospitality roles. Certification will be provided upon completion of the programme.

Focus on employability and job readiness

IHCL said the initiative is designed to improve employability by equipping candidates with job-ready skills. The company added that trained participants may be considered for employment opportunities within its hotel network as well as across the broader hospitality sector.

Officials noted that the programme is part of IHCL’s broader efforts to support workforce development and create a pipeline of skilled professionals for the industry.

Rising demand for skilled workforce

The expansion comes amid increasing demand for trained personnel as hotel openings and travel activity continue to rise across India. Industry stakeholders have highlighted a gap between demand and availability of skilled workers, particularly in operational roles.

IHCL stated that scaling its training programme is intended to help bridge this gap and support the sector’s growth by ensuring availability of trained staff across different service areas.

Implementation and rollout

The company said the programme will be rolled out in phases, with batches of trainees enrolled throughout the year. Monitoring and assessment mechanisms will be in place to evaluate training outcomes and ensure alignment with industry requirements.

IHCL added that partnerships with training organisations and local stakeholders will support execution across regions, enabling wider outreach and participation.

As of April 2026, IHCL has initiated the expanded skilling programme, with training activities underway across selected locations and additional batches planned in the coming months.
