Minor Hotels Signs First Anantara Resort and City Hotel in India
Minor Hotels signs its first Anantara resort in Coorg and urban hotel in Kolkata, marking a major expansion in India’s luxury hospitality market.
BANGKOK/NEW DELHI – April 14, 2026 – Minor Hotels has signed two new properties in India under its luxury Anantara Hotels & Resorts brand, marking its first resort and first urban hotel in the country. The developments include a 69-key resort in Coorg and a 170-key city hotel in Kolkata, reinforcing the group’s expansion strategy in India.
The signings represent a significant milestone for Minor Hotels as it strengthens its presence in one of its key growth markets. The company currently operates more than 640 properties globally and is targeting further scale across India through a mix of management agreements and franchise partnerships.
Coorg resort to open in 2028 with 69 keys
The Anantara Zanti Coorg Resort is planned as a 69-key luxury property located in the Western Ghats of Karnataka. Scheduled to open in 2028, the resort will be developed within a forested setting near Madikeri, positioning it as a nature-led destination targeting experiential and leisure travellers.
The property has been designed by architect Channa Daswatte and will include four dining venues, an Anantara Spa, a wellness centre, fitness facilities, a swimming pool, and meeting spaces. The development is being undertaken as a greenfield project in partnership with Zanti Hospitality.
According to Bimal Desai, Chairman of Zanti Hospitality, the project aims to create a hospitality offering that reflects the cultural and natural landscape of Coorg, while introducing an international luxury brand to the destination.
Kolkata urban hotel planned for 2032 opening
Minor Hotels has also signed the Anantara Kolkata Hotel, a 170-key property expected to open in 2032. The hotel will form part of the World Trade Center Salt Lake Kolkata, a mixed-use development positioned as a commercial and business hub.
The urban hotel will include two restaurants, a lobby lounge, and flexible meeting and event spaces, catering to corporate and business travel demand. Leisure facilities will include a spa, gym, and swimming pool, aligning with the brand’s luxury positioning.
The project is intended to serve as an anchor hospitality asset within the larger mixed-use complex, integrating accommodation with commercial and event infrastructure.
Expansion builds on recent India entries
The new signings follow Minor Hotels’ earlier expansion initiatives in India, including the debut of its Anantara brand in Jaipur in 2025 and the signing of a resort project in Visakhapatnam. These developments indicate a continued focus on introducing its luxury and lifestyle portfolio into key Indian destinations.
The group’s India strategy includes scaling both leisure and urban offerings, with a focus on destinations that demonstrate strong demand fundamentals across tourism and business travel segments.
Target of 50 properties in India over 10 years
Minor Hotels has outlined plans to expand its footprint in India to 50 properties over the next decade. The strategy involves deploying multiple brands across different segments, including luxury, upscale, and select-service categories.
In addition to Anantara and Avani, the company plans to introduce brands such as NH Collection, NH, and Oaks into the Indian market, particularly targeting tier-two and tier-three cities where branded hotel supply is expanding.
The approach combines global brand standards with local partnerships, enabling faster development while addressing varied market demands. This aligns with broader industry trends where international operators are increasing their presence in emerging hospitality markets across India.
The Coorg and Kolkata projects highlight Minor Hotels’ dual focus on experiential leisure destinations and high-growth urban centres. With these signings, the company continues to build a diversified pipeline aimed at capturing demand across India’s evolving travel landscape.
