NOT A HOTEL Japan Unveils Tadao Ando and Herzog & de Meuron Villas
NOT A HOTEL Japan unveils new villas by Tadao Ando and Herzog & de Meuron, plus fresh visuals of the Jean Nouvel Yakushima project.
NOT A HOTEL Japan has announced two new villa projects by Tadao Ando and Herzog & de Meuron. The operator has also released fresh visuals for a development on Yakushima by Ateliers Jean Nouvel. The news was first reported by Archinect.
Each scheme sets bold architecture against a dramatic natural setting. Full details on the brand are on the NOT A HOTEL website.
NOT A HOTEL Japan Adds a Tadao Ando Coastal Villa
The new villa will stand on the coast of Japan's Kinki region. It features a circular roof and an organically shaped reflecting pool. Concrete forms a geometric mix of straight and curved lines.
The design responds to changing light through the day and across the seasons. It also builds a bond between the structure and the shore. The firm says the aim is a place where one lives in harmony with the ocean.
Ando calls the peninsula's landscape beautiful yet fierce. He asks how architecture can hold its own against such power. He admits the task is difficult, but says the challenge stirs the spirit.
NOT A HOTEL Okinawa Villa by Herzog & de Meuron
Herzog & de Meuron has designed a villa in Okinawa. The project is a strong example of NOT A HOTEL Okinawa ambitions. Two horizontal slabs extend from a cliff toward the sea. They frame views of the horizon and give the building a low profile.
A third slab holds an infinity pool. It also works as an outdoor terrace above the ocean. Guests will look straight out over the water.
Jacques Herzog calls the site spectacular but also delicate and vulnerable. He says the design shows deep respect for nature. Varied materials appeal to both sight and touch. Spaces shift in scale and proportion to enrich the sensory experience.
NOT A HOTEL Japan Shares New Yakushima Visuals
The operator has also released new images of NOT A HOTEL Yakushima. The project was announced earlier and is designed by Ateliers Jean Nouvel. It sits on the forested island of Yakushima.
The development is conceived as a composition of rock and glass. It blends into the surrounding landscape. Nouvel says the most sophisticated things belong to nature.
In his view, the project is not about creating for those who wish to live there. It is about falling in love with a tree, a blade of grass or a stone. He points to rain and the sound of water as part of the experience.
What the New NOT A HOTEL Japan Projects Show
Together, the three schemes show a clear direction. The brand pairs famous architects with striking sites. Each design aims to respect its landscape while offering a memorable stay.
