RISHIKESH, May 20, 2026: Moustache Group of Hotels has added a new address to its growing list in Uttarakhand. The brand opened Moustache Select in Mohan Chatti, a tucked-away village on the quieter edges of the Rishikesh region, bringing its total tally in the state to 10 properties across its Hostel, Select, and Luxuria formats. This is its seventh Select property in Uttarakhand alone.
The choice of location says something deliberate. Mohan Chatti is not Rishikesh's main strip. It sits away from the crowded ghats and the Laxman Jhula footfall, closer to hills and open ground than temples and cafes. For a brand that has built its name on finding the character in a place rather than just occupying it, this fits a clear pattern.
Moustache Select Mohan Chatti: a different pace for Rishikesh
The property offers 23 keys spread across five room categories. Guests can expect premium bedding, air conditioning, free minibars, high-speed Wi-Fi, private bathrooms, and room service. The stay sits roughly 18 km from Rishikesh Railway Station and about 30 km from Jolly Grant Airport, close enough to the city's main circuit to access it easily, far enough to feel genuinely removed from it.
The outdoor setup is generous. A large central open ground anchors the property, built for gathering, games, and open-air evenings. Around it sit a full-size swimming pool, a small fish pond, designated bonfire spots, and terrace seating that catches mountain mornings at their best. The dining arrangement is designed around the same idea, breakfast outdoors when the air is clear, candlelit dinners under an open sky.
Inside, the design leans into a bohemian aesthetic. Think earthy textures, handcrafted details, furniture with personality, and colour that does not feel like it came from a catalogue. The property also runs a restaurant, a shared lounge, a game room, a 24-hour front desk, concierge support, power backup, and free private parking.
What the group's co-founder said about this move
Abhishek Khandelwal, Co-Founder and Director, Moustache Group of Hotels, framed the Mohan Chatti launch around a shift he sees happening in how travellers relate to Rishikesh.
"Rishikesh is no longer a one-format destination. There is the energy of the main town, and then there is the quieter side of the region that many travellers now actively look for. Mohan Chatti gives us the chance to serve that second need better. It offers space, greenery, and a slower pace, while still keeping guests close enough to the larger Rishikesh circuit."
— Abhishek Khandelwal, Co-Founder and Director, Moustache Group of Hotels
That framing, two versions of the same destination, is one that hospitality operators across Uttarakhand are beginning to understand. Travellers who have already done the Triveni Ghat sunrise and the river rafting run are now looking for what comes next. A property in Mohan Chatti answers that without asking them to travel far.
Moustache Group's Uttarakhand expansion in context
Ten properties in one state is a serious concentration for any mid-market hospitality group in India. For Moustache, it reflects a deliberate bet that Uttarakhand's traveller demand has reached the depth to support multiple formats, not just hostels for backpackers but Select-tier stays for travellers willing to pay more for character and comfort together.
The group has been on an active run in 2026. Earlier this year, it launched a Select property in McLeodGanj in Himachal Pradesh and reported stronger-than-expected summer booking numbers across its Himalayan portfolio. The Mohan Chatti opening continues that momentum into the warmer travel months.
Uttarakhand, as a hospitality market, has been drawing steady investor and operator attention. The state sees year-round demand from pilgrimage visitors, adventure seekers, and an expanding base of urban travellers looking for nature and quiet over crowds. Rishikesh sits at the heart of that activity, and Mohan Chatti, as the group's read of the market suggests, may represent the next wave of that growth.
